What Causes High BP Post Colonoscopy?

I have just had my colonoscopy cancelled prior sedation as my blood pressure is around 195/127.This has come as a complete shock to me.Was told its much too high and was at risk of stroke or heart attack during the procedure. Several attempts made over a period of 4 hours but lowest reading was 174/123.highest was 204/130.I am 39 years old.I admit my lifestyle is poor and I drink far too much alcohol and eat lots of salt on my food. Doctor seems quite worried and says I need blood tests and ecg tomorrow. Colonoscopy will have to wait until my blood pressure comes down and I have been prescribed Lisinopril 2.5mg tablets 1 daily. so now I am not only worried about the rectal bleeding but also blood pressure. Could you tell me how effective these tablets are and should I be as worried as I am? I also suffer depression and take Cetalopram20mg daily.

Hi thanks for using Healthcaremagic
It is not advisable to do an elective procedure when the blood pressure is very high. You will be having Hypertension(elevated BP) but the tension about colonoscopy could be the cause of very high values.....
Lisinopril is a good drug but you will have to review with the doctor and titrate the dose accordingly..
thank you....
