What Causes High Blood Pressure After Taking Vitamin D3 Pills?

I am taking vitamin D3 1000 iu once daily which I started taking the pill about 3 to 4 months ago. I also started taking a vitamin B-12 1000 mcg which I also started taking about 3 to 4 months ago. For the last couple of months my blood pressure has been going up higher than normal. Could either of these medications have an affect on high blood pressure.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sometimes, if vitamin D3 is taking in overdosage (more than needed) can cause increased levels of calcium, which might alter the elasticity of the blood vessels contributing to increased blood pressure (BP).

I recommend to stop taking vitamin D3 for a month, keep monitoring your BP and record the results to see the changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
