What Causes High Blood Pressure Despite Taking Medication?

Hi doctor my blood pressure is 175/125 yesterday early in the morning and I haven t eaten anything yet. And I am also drinking amlodipine 10mg. Once a day for almost 2 weeks now. Should I see my doctor again? 2 weeks ago my doctor gave me meds for me to take for 1 month and she told me to come back after a month and she ll tell me if I need to continue drinking meds for high blood pressure. My appointment with her is on the 8 of this month. Should I go asap or can wait till 8? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Your high blood pressure should be further investigated.
I advise to monitor your blood pressure (bp) for at least 1 week, and record the results for future reference.

Meanwhile, I advise to:
- limit salt intake
- continue taking amlodipine as recommended by your doctor
- avoid caffeinated drinks
- take chamomile/aloe vera/valeriana supplement at bedtime

After 1 week, you can schedule an appointment with your doctor and have another cardiac check up. You need further antihypertensive meds to be added in your actual therapy.

Hope this helps.
