What Causes High Blood Sugar Level After Taking The Diabetic Pills?

My mother-in-law is 83 and diabetic and on pills. Her fasting blood sugar has consistently been running about 350 for the last week. She is having extreme thirst, frequent urination, feeling tired and sleepy and headaches. She is taking pills, and her doctor says she is on the maximum dose he can give her due to her kidney function. What is the danger involved?

The real danger lies in the development of diabetes related complications. I meant acute emergencies like DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). Secondly is the worsening of her kidney function. Other major organs could be damaged due to high sugars. Best otion would be to start a very small dose of insulin to bring sugars under control.

Deat sir I can understand your concerns
in my opinion if pt is on high dose of pills with poor kidney function it's better to reduce the dose of pills and stat considering insulin shots
taking insulin to Controll diabetes in poor kidney function is having lots of benefits like
1.Pill burden on kidney can be reduced
2.insulin will control kidney well which will help in recovery of kidneys function
3. insulin have no side effects and safe for kidney also.
4.acurate dose titration is possible
I strongly suggest you to consider insulin over pills
