What Causes High Cholesterol Levels While On L-Lysine?

Hello, I have hsv2 and have been on suppression therapy with acyclovir for years. I also have been taking l-lysine daily for years. Recently I had a physical and bloods done, and found out I have high blood pressure and very high cholesterol. This does run in my family. My doc has put me on lisinopril for no, and gemfibrosil for the cholesterol. I just read online that l-lysine causes high cholesterol. Can me taking lysine be contributing to my high cholesterol? Might there be any interactions with lysine and gemfibrosil? Should I stop taking the lysine?

Hi,

Lysine is an essential amino acid, basically, it is a supplement which helps in protein synthesis. It does not cause any rise in blood cholesterol but a deficiency of lysine can cause a problem in fat metabolism.

The possible cause of high cholesterol is High calories and fat-rich foods and less physical activity. So I advise you to change your lifestyle. You can take lysine regularly. It does not have any interaction with gemfibrozil.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
