My son had an injury on his left eye during his water polo games. He was admitted in the general hospital. The doctor said that his a clog on his eye and the pressure high (36) and not allow to move so much or transfer him to other hospital because to prevent any other complication in his eye. He cannot lie down flat, just sit up 45 degree.I would like to know why his eye pressure high though this is his 4th day in hospital.
Ocular trauma cause bleeding in various parts of eye which can cause high pressure in eye. As you mentioned he has been restricted to lie flat, suggest it could be vitreous bleeding, vitreous is clear gel filling most of the eye. Bleeding in to vitreous blocks vision hence by avoiding lie flat, preventing blood to accumulate in visual axis and over macula which is dependent part in flat position. Macula is most important part of retina for maximum central vision. Blood over it can cause its degeneration on long run due to toxins from blood.
There can also be associated other injuries to angle of eye or blood in front portion of eye etc.
These pressure should be controlled by temporary measures to prevent further damage and pain. In spite of above measures if pressure are high, then surgical exploration and evacuation of blood should be considered.
