What Causes High Fever Along With Chronic Cough?

My husband (age 76) has not been feeling well since yesterday afternoon. I just took his temperature five minutes ago (102.3) He has been coughing. I am age 78 in June and now have a temperature of 100.8. I am wondering if it is prudent to wait until tomorrow morning to consult our regular doctor. I am also a bit concerned about the course of treatment. Our doctor has prescribed zithromax in the past for similar symptoms and he responded well to it . However, I have heard from other healthcare givers who say that particular drug has some contraindications(heart related) for persons our age.

Hello,

You are suffering from an infection most likely bacterial. It has affected your respiratory system leading to protective reflex in the form of a cough.

As fever is commonly observed symptom of infections so you have a fever as well. You definitely need to see a doctor. As you have taken Azithromycin and recovered from the same effects.

You can take that again as Rx Azithromycin BD for 3 days. Yes, it has some effect on heart but at a high dose. If you have tolerated it well earlier you can take it.

Still to avoid your apprehensions get this medicine. Rx capsule Amoxycilline 500TDS and Paracetamol BD for 5 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
