What Causes High Fever With Muscle And Joint Pain?
hi, my Mom is traveling in India. Has been there for 6 day. Yesterday, she experienced acute onset of fever ( 102.7), severe muscle and joint pain. the pain was so sebere that she couldnt move. No diarrhea, vomitting, nausea, bruising, or rash. She is able to hydrate. Any thoughts on cause? Cheryl

Fever with joint and muscle pains is predominantly because of viral illness.
It can be due to dengue,chikungunya or any other viral infection.
management is symptomatic and supportive .
you have to keep a watch for any complication that arises.
take paracetamol and brufen for fever and pain.Avoid aspirin.
use pain balms like volini gel,dynapar spray for joint pain
take rest and plenty of fluids to maintain adequate hydration.
Do blood test to keep track of platelet levels and hospitalise if it is 1lakh/cc or less.
Hospitalise if there are symptoms of hypovolemia like giddiness ,fainting,fast heart rate,palpitations ,for intravenous hydration.
watch for haemorrhagic complications which can happen in dengue and needs hospitalisation.
chikungunya is known to continue causing joint pain long after the febrile illness is gone.
