What Causes High Fever?

Hi doctor . My age is 35. From past 3 weeks I am suffering from high fever. And my locol doctor adviced me to do few test. In the test my ESR is 78. What does that means. I understand that that ESR results shows that there may be some infection in the body. Can u tell me what would be the possible infections. Is there any other investigation to be done .

Tons of investigations to be done, but You are to scarce with information. Even in tet-a-tet medicine, where patient is present, anamnesis (that is info that the patient gives the doctor, spontaneously,or answering questions,or heteroanamnesis, the info some one else gives if the patient is too ill) is 70-80% of diagnosis. Then comes physical exam and additional tests, imaging.........etc. You are right ESR is a non-specific indicator of inflammation. So its quickening isn`t even specific of infection. Other types of noxae may cause its raise. But if You are not giving any specific info because there is not any there, and Your doctor can not find the so called ``focus`` by examining You (which is rare, but possible),then try imaging that will catch the most likely and common causes.......chest x-ray,ultrasound of the abdomen,if you are female visit the gynecologist, male should visit urologist, and finally gastroenterologist i.e. colonoscopy.................
