What Causes High Potassium Level In Blood?

i have a lab report for my 16 yo son. The Potassium is High 5.4 Protein 5.1 albumin 5.1 triglycerides 237 LDL Chol 105 LDL/HDL risk ratioo 4.02 HDL What could be appointment isnt until next week and I am really curious as to the possibilites. the HDL Chol is low 26

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, two values are significant clinically.

First potassium is on higher side which needs to be worked up for the possibile cause. As any further increase can be dangerous for cardiac safety etc.

Also tha HDL is very low which is good cholesterol and needs to be above 40 ideally.

Clinical correlation of these labs is a must so must be followed up with the prescribing physician.
