What Causes High Systolic Level And Low Diastolic Level?

Dear Dr, My sister aged 78 has been advised that her BP is 160/60. She is otherwise healthy, though thin, has given up smoking, and drinks beer casually. She is being checked every 2 days and is on medication on. I am concerned that her systolic is high whilst her diastolic is low. Is this unusual or is this indicative of some illness.

Hello,

Loss of vascular resistance like degenerative aortic regurgitation with hypertension can sometime lead to this sort of picture. Please visit your cardiologist for an ECHO test.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
