What Causes Hives After Getting An Injection For Knee Pain?

Might these injections trigger hives? I have had hives in the past but had not had them for two years. Had three injections on both knees .... Shortly thereafter (5-7 days after last injection) began having them again. I did take Ibuprofen after the last injection on my left knee. My knees feel great.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having drug-induced urticaria, my treatment advice is -
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 2 months.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are an oral steroid, hydroxyzine took only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
