What Causes Hives All Over Body And Leg Pain In Children?

My 2 year old daughter has been having hives all over body since yesterday evening. I m an RN & have been treating her with 12.5mg of benadryl as needed, but they re not going away. They are improving with meds, but then worsen every 4-5 hrs when the meds wear off. Since about noon today, she now complaining of leg pain & crying on ambulation. She s very active & typically wants to do everything herself, but now she s wanting to be carried everywhere. When I try to stand her up, she s instantly in tears & saying owie . She s not a complainer so this is unusual. Any thoughts?TJ Davis

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to an allergic reaction. I suggest using Benadryl every six hours. If the symptoms continue, or if she have breathing difficulties, I suggest to go at the emergency room for steroid shots.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
