My husband has used chewing tobacco heavy for many years. He has now developed hives suddenly on different occasions for no reason Could it be related to liver disease. It is severe reaction. He has had liver enzyme test and they tell him he s fine. It is so bad when he has the itching and hives we go to the hospital.

Hi,

This is unlikely related to tobacco or liver disease. This indicates recurring urticaria. Kindly see an internal medicine specialist for evaluation. If preliminary workup is normal, we need not worry. All that is needed will be a short course of antihistamines, sometimes with steroids during the episodes. Meanwhile, try to find out a trigger like a particular food or drug that might be the reason. Tobacco chewing can cause oral cancer and better to discontinue anyhow.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
