What Causes Hives On The Body While On Keppra?

I am a school nurse at a high school. I have a 15 yr old girl in my office who has broken out in hives over the last few days. Benadryl gives her relief but makes her sleepy. She has a partial complex seizure disorder and takes Keppra BID for seizure management but has been on it for a year. Do you think there could be any correlation between Keppra and hives??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be an allergic eruption.

As of now you can take antihistamines like Pheniramine for symptomatic relief. You can apply low potency steroid creams like betamethasone for symptomatic relief. If the lesion persists, it is better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
