What Causes Hoarse Voice Post Gastric Bypass Surgery?
I had gastric gastric bypass surgery in 2003 & have been diagnosed with several related problems. Every day, for most of the day, my voice is extremely, to the point in which people as me if I m sick. I recently had an Upper GI & it looked as though was normal. I would like to know why I m developing this hoarseness everyday. I clear my throat constantly have even take sinus/allergy tablets to no avail. My Gastroenterologist put me on Nexium for an indefinite period of time. Also, after eating dinner (my largest meal of the day, the food I consume just sits on top of my stomach. Most of the time, the food is still sitting on top of my stomach the next morning,
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of gastric bypass surgery and food sitting in the stomach in spite of normal upper GI Endoscopy. You another concern is about the hoarse and changed voice.
Th probable reason of hoarse voice may not be related to your stomach problem, it may be laryngitis or some problem with vocal cords. This can be diagnosed easily on upper GI endoscopy. The treatment is voice rest and oral medications or surgery as per the cause. Another problem of your feeling of food sitting in the stomach alone may be related to the gastroparesis. I would advise you to undergo the barium study under fluoroscopic so that the cause of your feeling can be diagnosed. You may need an additional motility regulator medication like Domperidone or Reglan and you may be fine then.
