What Causes Hoarseness In Voice After A Surgery For Pneumonia Treatment?

I recently had a severe case of pneumonia and empyema, which included a hospital stay and surgery within the past 2 months. Now I am having difficulty speaking. My voice is very low, hoarse and I am short of breath when I speak. This condition didn t start until about 2 - 3 weeks after my surgery. I went to an ENT Doctor who said it was reflux. Is it possible that this is a complication from the sickness I had, or the surgery?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It might be due to nerve injury following the surgical procedure, Reflux can also cause similar symptoms due to recurrent attacks of inflammation of the vocal cords.

Consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
