What Causes Hole In The Tonsil?

Hi my boyfriend gets tonsillitis a few times a year. He asked me to catch the bad of his mouth today cause it was bugging him and he just didn't feel well. He had white pus spots on his tonsils. That was at 4pm it's now 7pm and he had bigger white pus on his tonsils his tonsils are a bit more swellon and I see now on his right tonsil that there is a small hole. What is this small hole? Should I take him to the e.r

As per your complain it seems that your boyfriend is suffering from bacterial throat infection also known as Strep throat leading to Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis and the pus pockets further indicates bacterial infection..

The hole over the tonsil seems to be due to any ruptured pus pocket that has left a crater or depression over the tonsil and is appearing like a hole..

Nothing to worry as it will heal gradually as the infection resolves..

You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can help..
You can also suck throat lozenges, chew Vitamin C pellet and avoid spicy and chilled foods.
