Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 70 years old and pretty active Tennis, bike riding, golf). Having trouble sleeping all night. I go to sleep around 10 - 10:30 and sleep until around 2 or 3am. A couple of times I was sweating when I woke up. I take synthroid and usually I am cool and not hot. What could be causing this?
Hot flushes, sleeping disorders, shortness of breath, irritations, dryness of the mouth, etc are menopausal symptoms that may trigger the side effects of Synthroid.
Since you are having such symptoms you are suggested to immediately see gyne, you may need a hormone therapy & are a repeat test of T3, T4, TSH so that you are able to take accurate doses of Synthroid & experience fewer side effects.
Your treating gynecologist may refer you to a GP for further evaluation & treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
