What Causes Hot Flashes During Nights In Women With PCOs?

I feel like im burning up inside. I feel it alot when im sleeping or trying to . itll wake me up and then i have problems going back to sleep cause im so hot. Ill kick off covers , sleep naked, and run fans . When i kick off covers sometimes ill cool down real quick and be really cold but most times i lay there until i pass out. Usually that takes a few hours. Drinking cold water helps me cool down for a little. I always have put off a lot of body heat but this doesnt feel like my norm. Im am only 28 and i have pcos. Other than that im healthy.

Hello,

The following are few causes of hot flashes in young females that are not related to menopausal transition:
1) Vitamin D deficiency
2) Anxiety
3) Very low dietary calcium supplementation
4) Smoking
5) Severe depression
6) Obesity
7) Breast cancer related chemotherapy
8) Very low estrogen levels
9) High follicle stimulating hormone levels

Following are my suggestions:
1) Take 25,000 to 50,000 international units of vitamin D2 or D3 by mouth once per week for six to eight weeks, and then 800 to 1000 international units, or more, of vitamin D3 daily thereafter. Also take calcium tablets daily.
2) If you get too anxious, take anxiolytics like benzodiazepines like Alprazolam at night.
3) Regular exercise for at least 45min a day for 5 days a week would help.
4) If hot flashes don't subside in about a fortnight, consult a gynecologist to check estrogen and other hormone levels.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
