What Causes Hyper Sensitivity In Teeth?

I am getting a lot of sensitivity in one of my teeth. It started yesterday. It comes and goes. My jaw is a little sore as well near the TMJ. I am also experiencing a muscle twitch. This is all occurring on the left side of my lower jaw. I had an implant done about 7 months ago. Any ideas?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain sensitivity of tooth that comes and goes can be due to dentinal hypersensitivity that occurs due to opening up of nerve endings present over the tooth leading to sensitivity of taking any hot and cold foods and fluids..
In case if tooth is decayed, it can also be due to decayed tooth and an x ray has to be done in this regard and tooth has to be treated accordingly..

Secondly soreness in jaw and TMJ seems along with muscle twitch can be due to either any high points in fillings or crowns while can also be due to jaw joint dysfunction known as Temporomandibular joint dysfunction..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and a full mouth x ray known as Panoromic x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can take a combination of anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone..
Massage the side of face with round gentle motions of the fingers..
Take a soft diet..
Avoid excess mouth opening like while yawning, laughing etc..

For sensitive tooth if there is no decay and is due to hypersensitivity you can apply desensitizing tooth paste for a minute and brush with it only..
Do it twice a day for 15 days..
Do not use desensitizing toothpaste for more than 15 days as it has more abrasives and can harm the tooth..
In case if you need to use it again keep a gap of one week in between..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
