What Causes Hypertension While On Dextromethorphan?

I take dextromethoraphan (robutussin gel caps) 3 times daily for psuedobulbar affect. I cannot take Neudexta so my Neurologist substitutes this instead. I suddenly had a critical hypertensive event and was taken by ambulance to E.R. (B.P. was 211/96) Could this be the cause of my problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This medication ( the dextromethorphan) is not known to cause an increase in blood pressure so it is not the likely cause.

Hypertension is most commonly essential , this means that no obvious cause can be found in most persons.

Increased blood pressure can contribute to pseudobulbar affect by causing a stroke or brain damage.
A CT scan brain would normally show any changes.

I hope this helps
