Hello,

Your father is suffering from loss of ability to walk due to severe tremors, he also has difficulty in talking. He has history of GBS. Your father suffers also from essential tremor, ET patients have less motor ability and hence have difficulty in walking due to diminished cognitive ability.

The symptoms may worsen due to lack of treatment of the chronic disease, aging, accidents, etc. Get your father clinically examined by a Neurologist also, get him nerve conduction velocity tests, all required blood tests and imaging tests done. His treatment will depend on the pathology detected and severity of the symptoms.

Give him food (Vitamin B6, B12, etc.) good for the nerves and supplements to help nerve repair. You are suggested to help your father move his arms and legs to help keep the muscles flexible and strong. Get him connected to a Physical therapist to help cope with fatigue and regain strength.

Adaptive devices, such as a wheelchair or braces may be helpful to give him mobility and help in self-care. GBS is also treated with plasma exchange (plasmapheresis) and Immunoglobulin therapy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
