What Causes Inconsistencies In Menstruation?

I took the depo shot for about a year.I stopped having my period for a year then it came back.my and my husband have been trying to get pregnant for about 4 months now but i cant seem to get pregnant.and my period skips a month giving me false hope.wat is wrong?
