What Causes Inconsistencies In Periods?

I am 49 and had 7 days of bleeding which finished five days ago. Now my period has started again with all normal symptoms-the previous bleeding didn't have any of my usual period symptoms. My mum died of womb cancer at 67, two years ago and I am worried. Am I worrying too much?
