What Causes Increase In CEA And CA15.3 Levels In Breast Cancer Patient?

Hi. I have had breat cancer since 1994. Now, Am taking Aromasin. My CEA and CA15.3 have been increasing, latest up to 12 and 96 respectively. Did a CT and mamography, both were negative. Did a gastroscopy, had mild gastritis, did a PET scan and there was some increased uptake foci (SUV 11) in the esophagus, mediatinum and other places. Diferrential diagnosis was metastasis or inflammatory disease. Now am shcduled for a colonoscopy. Am 68 year old white female, with no family history of cancer. Do you think an autoimmune disease can increase the markers this high?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and thanks you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can with my answer.
CEA is marker that may indicate colon cancer and ca15.3 breast cancer. However, these values are only slightly elevated and it may be Sen in many benign or malignant diseases. Pet scan is nonspecific in your case and may be the worst scenario but also, metastasis is not confirmed. You should do colonoscopy and repeat pet scan in few months.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
