What Causes Increased Blood Pressure Levels?

Hello, I went to the er the other night because of an allergic reaction. My blood pressure was 192/93. I have never been told I ve had high blood pressure before this. When I left the hospital it had went down to 158/90. Since then I have been slightly dizzy, and feel generally weird. I m wondering if this is normal after an allergic reaction or if there is something more serious going on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

- Allergic reactions tend to cause your BP to drop, not go up
- Its possible that you had a high BP that one time because of the associated anxiety with an attack
- Did they put you on any BP lowering medications --> These can cause some dizziness initially
- If not, it is possible that you genuinely have a high BP that needs treatment
- I would suggest you get your blood pressure checked again on 2 occasions at least a week apart. If it is persistently high, you may need to start on regular anti-hypertensives.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
