What Causes Increased Heart Beat?

I am a 55 year old female in excellent health. I exercise 60 min. a day, 6 days a week. I'm 5'2", 130lbs. Once in a while I can feel my heart beating in my throat or just beating hard. Do I need to worry or see a doctor for this? I am NOT a big water drinker...could that have something to do with it?

Hi welcome to HCM,
Your palpitations seem to have underlying electrophysiological basis. Most likely they could be benign paroxysmal atrial or ventricular tachyarrthymias.I suggest you get a baseline ECG with a 24hr Holter EKG.This can accurately diagnose and quantify the rhythm disturbances.Treatment includes drugs like alprazolam with or without propanalol.radiofrequency ablation techiniques can offer permanent cure if any aberrant tracts are found.Consult a cardiologist for further queries.
Thank you
