What Causes Increased Heartbeat Rate?

my daughter is 17 years old, very healthy, active, plays 3 sports. she was with a personal trainer today and her heart rate went up to 205 - measured on her iphone. Occasionally her heart rate goes up this high to the point where she feels light headed and has to sit down. Could she be deficient in something...potassium?

Hello,

Fast heartbeat in young healthy patients is generally due to anxiety and nothing to worry. on the other hand being so much involved in sports she needs to have a check to make sure her heart is doing well. She might need some blood tests like CBC, TSH and basic metabolic profile (sugar, liver and kidney function tests, lipids, etc) and an ECG and heart ultrasound.

If all is normal then there is nothing to worry.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
