Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, recently I have been experiencing problems with excess sweating at night. About once every 1-2 weeks I wake up with the bed sheets soaking and the sweat has a vinegar like odour. This is not something I have experienced before until the last few months. I am male, 28, healthy, average build, in good shape - recently ran the London marathon. Any ideas what it could be?
Bromhidrosis refers to foul smelling body odor. Sweat as such does not have any odor. Bacterial multiplication at the site of sweating is responsible for the foul smell.Proper maintenance of body hygiene is essential. Since you have specifically mentioned about excessive sweating at night, testing of blood sugar to rule out diabetes, T3, T4, TSH to rule out hyperthyroidism is essential. Liver and Renal function test should also be done in order to confirm the cause of excess sweating.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
