What Causes Increased Thirst While On Weight Loss Program?
Hi for about 1 week have had increased thirst, drinking anything around, but still dry, drank 1 litre of water the other night, am obese, currently losing weight, 16kg down so far, did my blood glucose level this morning fasting 5.8, drank some juice half an hour later BGL 8.9, no other symptoms
Increased thirst during dieting is commonly due to low carbohydrate intake. Low carbohydrate store results in loss of fat as well as water. Other factor is diabetes, keep your blood sugar levels under control. High sugar levels will trigger thirst. Weight loss is also indicative of diabetes.
Avoid certain food that trigger thirst. Stay away from alcohol, tea/coffee, cut on salt & high protein diet & all types of soft drinks. Stay well hydrated & take a lot of fruits, berries & veggies.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Nupur K,
