What Causes Increased Urge To Urinate For Years Post Delivery?

Ever since i gave birth to my 3 year old son, I use the toilet alot to pass urine. Even during my pregnancy, until now I do. At times I would not go as much, depending on the season as I am aware during the winter we pass urine alot as we dont sweat. Whereas in the summer we do. I have 1 coffee in the morning/afternoon and through the day a cup of water or juice. So i dont drink as much for me to pass alot of urine frequently. Also at night I wake up to go the toilet alot lately, I wake up with the urge to pass urine. My urine hasnt got a smell or is a dark colour and i also have no pain when passing urine. So what could it be?

This sounds like one of several possibilities. Given the onset following pregnancy (assuming vaginal delivery), you could be experiencing an overactive bladder. This is the result of an overactive detrussor muscle that controls bladder emptying. A simple treatment to test this would be to try Oxybutynin 5 mg twice a day. from your primary physician This medication stops the activity of this muscle and allows for increased filling before voiding. Less likely you could have experienced pelvic floor relaxation as a result of age and pregnancy. This is commonly associated with incontinence that occurs when laughing, crying or any activity that increases intra-abdominal pressure. A pelvic sling procedure through a Urologist would be the treatment of choice. I didn't read you mention this so I wouldn't suspect this to be a problem. Another possibility, less likely again, is Diabetes Mellitus. Having a high blood sugar can promote diuresis. You would need to get your blood sugar and Hemoglobin A1c checked. Continue to avoid drinks like caffeine, tea, sodas, cranberry juice as these may promote diuresis.

Let me know if I may be of any further assistance.
