What Causes Indentation On The Head?

I am a 64 year old male. Dent on head that did not have before just appeared. Have not had any blows/injury to head. Is just right of mid-line approx. 2 inches from front of forehead; ie straight up from temple line at top with the indentation beginning about 1/4 from middle. Is bigger then pad of index finger, not sure how deep, would estimate approx. 1/8 inch. The surrounding scalp feels the way it has always, tight to skull, no puffiness at all. I would have noticed this before. What could be going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

History of trauma, headache, visual difficulties should be ruled out. Sudden formation of dent in the bone should be evaluated to rule out any tumors or disease that cause loss of bone. An X-ray or CT scan may be required to rule out any bony deformities or bone related mass or tumours.

Vitamin D and Calcium levels should be measured. Bone density should also be tested to rule out any osteoporosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
