What Causes Indigestion Followed By Vomiting And Chest Tightness?

Good day Doc! I have experienced this inability to burp once before but not often. Lately, I am suffering it for almost a week now. Everytime I have an intake of liquid or solid foods, I hardly burp.. I can burp so little and sometimes i burp big with matching vomit (water only or sometimes with sticky saliva). It is so uncomfortable that there is something stuck in your chest. I have to jump or sit or bow or bend my body so my stomach will be squeezed and my burp can go out... Pls Doc I m almost panicking already coz it won t stop or go back to the normal ways... I want to drink plenty of water but I m already afraid coz this inability of burping will strike again and it s so discomforting.. Pls help me Doc! Thank you so much!

Hi,

Symptom provided by you points towards "water brash" most often encountered in people with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) characterized by a sour fluid or almost tasteless saliva in the mouth, and because the acis irritates the throat one may experience heart burn (chest tightness, vomiting) in your case. In all probability you should consult a Medicine specialist or a Gastroenterologist to help alleviate your symptoms either through investigation ( endoscopy) or with medication (anatacids, proton pump inhibitors), till then you can make certain dietary and lifestyle adjustments like:
- Eliminate fatty food from your diet.
- Try to maintain ideal body weight and remain active.
- Quit smoking, caffeine, carbonated drinks.
- Do not lie down, immediately after food, take small, non bulky meals.
- Head high position at night
- Bland and soft diet, more of milk. Avoid hot drinks and spicy food, citrus fruits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
