What Causes Induration And Itching After A PPD Test

I had a PPD test done yesterday. Today it has induration and is about the size of a dime. It also itches. I am a medical student so I know that I am considered high risk. Is this extremely abnormal? My test was not positive last year. I was instucted to report back on Friday before 3pm. Should I do anything now? Thank you.

Hi!
welcome to HCM!
If induration is more than 10mm the test is taken as positive.
However a positive tuberculin skin test is seen in both the active and inactive forms of tuberculosis and doesnot mean that you have the disease. It only means that you have been exposed to someone with tuberculosis
and that your immune system is responding to the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
If you have any symptoms like fever, cough ,you must get other tests done to rule out active disease .Take care!

tuberculosis.
