What Causes Infection Around An Allergic Rash On The Neck?

Hello, So Late November I had a rash from a leather necklace I chronically wore for over a year (get it wet in the shower etc). The rash developed into a bleeding wound early december. It still hasn t healed, discharges pus if it isn t wrapped up and rubs on clothes, and every now and then keeps me up at night with a burning sensation. I have decided to make a formula of Calcium carbonate, zinc oxide and extra sudacream as an antimicrobial ointment and this has brought the swelling and pus to 0. However, I am 25, and such a chronic wound concerns me. Do you think it is simply an aggressive bacterial infection?

Hello,

Rash with discharging pus suggests a bacterial infection.

I suggest you get pus culture and sensitivity to determine the exact cause of infection and the appropriate antibiotic for the infection.

Treatment of infection will treat the discharging sinus also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri,
