What Causes Infertility While Suffering From Thyroid Dysfunction?
Hii am 24yrs old. Got married past before 6months ago. Yet i did not get conceive so we consult doctor. She told me to take few tests including thyroid tests. The result was shown that tsh was 12.68. She prescribed me to take 100mg of thyronorm tablet now am taking this tablet. My periods are almost regular every month.can you tell me is there any problem to get conceive coz of this thyroid problem? Pls give me solution
Hello, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism does cause either subfertility or infertility. If you are on treatment with Thyronorm then it isnecessary to maintain TSH levels around 2 for getting pregnant. So please check the levels and if higher than mentioned, then you may have to increase the dose of thyronorm. Normal levels are between 3 to 4 mU/L, but to conceive TSH has to be maintained around 2 mU/L. Plus all through the pregnancy TSH should be : 1st trimester : 0.1 to 2.5 mU/L, 2nd trimester : 0.2 to 3 mU/L & 3rd trimester :0.3 to 3 mU/L. Maintaining TSH in this range is absolutely essential for proper fetal development and expected healthy out come of prgnancy. If all other things are normal then TSH levels should be as mentioned above. Thanks.
