What Causes Inflammation In The Stomach Lining?

MY wife has NASH and was recently back in the hospital, the throat scan revealed that the stomach wall is red and inflamed. Bowel was fine with no abnormality and except for the redness varices and banding are good. Ammonia was elevated 98 as was here sugar 181,, she is now recovering at a rehab facility and doing better. She is taking Xyfaxin 550 2 x per day. The redness issue is my focus now and i feel that she may have be taking too much Lactulose or perhaps there is another hidden connection. Please advance a thought as to the stomach issue.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The lactulose is not responsible for that. The gastritis is may be due to H. pylori infection, so if you wish you can have the test for that, and otherwise not to worry about it. Antibiotics also can make gastric mucosal irritation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
