What Causes Insomnia And Tremors In The Hands?

I have been on 5mg. of Zolpidem for the past nine years. My doctor felt it was safe because I had no side effects and slept well with it. Now it has boomeranged and while it gets me to sleep it doesn t keep me there. I will wake up two hours later with some arm tremors and then sleep raggedly from then on - probably averaging a total of 5-6 hours. I am 84 years old and feeling really tired during the day from sleep issues. I am going to cut the Ambien to 2.5mg per night to see if that helps, and then wean myself off it. Would switching to Melatonin (1mg) make any sense? I take 10 mg. Lexapro in the morning, otherwise just Fosamax and metformin (low dose). YYYY@YYYY
