What Causes Insomnia Despite Taking Sleeping Aids?

I was given trazadone by my physician, to help me sleep. I slept 0, then 4-hours, then about6 hours, then back to 2 hours, then 7 hours. As it was not effective at 50 mg. my doctor changed it, after only 8 days to 50 mg quetiapine, it did not work at all last nite, which is supposedle better, or does it just depend on me. 0

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Trazodone and Quetiapine both are drugs that help in sleep but they are not proper sleep drugs. You failed to get good sleep despite on Quetiapine and Trazodone then in such case other drugs like benzodiazepines can be used. Benzodiazepines are sleep medicines and help in sleeping when other drugs fail. Other drugs like Z-drugs as Zolpidem or Zopiclone can also help you. Both these group of drugs are known to cause dependence so should be taken under proper prescription only and should be used for short term only.

As you failed to get relief with the medicines so I'd advise you to visit a psychiatrist and take the prescription of the drugs I have mentioned.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
