What Causes Intense Abdominal Discomfort Along With Blood In Bowels?

My symptoms for about a week now: Intense abdominal discomfort, sometimes into chest are, but not relieved with Pepto Bismal, 7up, Alka seltzer, etc. stools are now 4-5 times a day instead of the usual one in the a.m. Black in color, now blood seeps out of the stool itself...but I have none of the risk factors for Colon cancer. I exercise regularly, do not eat a hi hi fat diet, have never smoked, nor drank....so is it likely to be something else? I am 76 and very healthy, no diabetes, No high BP etc

Hello,
If you have not had a colonoscopy then it is probably time that you get one. you may even need an upper endoscopy as well because the black stoool could be from some bleeding in the stomach or upper intestines. There are many causes of the discomfort from ulcer to diverticulitis. See your doctor right away and get a referral to gastroenterology so that you can get a diagnosis and treatment
