What Causes Intense Pain And Swelling In The Hands?

My brother-in-law, age 59 and a carpenter the past 30 years -- has been experiencing a lot of physical pain the past 6 weeks or so. He went to ER last weekend with swollen hands in addition to his pain. The doc ruled out stroke and other life threatening conditions. But no one has been able to provide a diagnosis. Just saying his body shows internal inflammation . It started out with his right leg and foot dragging He can t raise his arms to lift anything. He has been receiving chiropractic treatments the past few weeks. He was given steroids, and they have helped some. But not a lot. He has not been able to work because of the condition.

I recommend a blood count, urine test and total Ig E level.
