What Causes Intense Pain In Chest Radiating To Knees?
I just drank some water, and all of a sudden there was intense pain in my chest that brought me to my knees. It went away after maybe a minute, but I have no idea what just happened. I know the water didn t go down the wrong way, so I m pretty freaked out.
Sudden intense pain in the chest after drinking water is indicative of esophagitis. Reflux esophagitis commonly causes such symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP to rule out developing ulcer, esophageal stricture or any other pathology. You can take PPIs for relief. Sometimes, it can also be indicative of developing CAD, coronary artery disease.
Get all required routine cardiac tests done to be on the safer side. You will be treated accordingly. You also felt pain radiating to your knees. Radiating knee pain indicates strain in the ligaments, tendon or bone. It can be due to infection around the knee joint or may be popliteal aneurysms. Get clinically examined and evaluated, get X-ray, CT / MRI done to study the source so that treatment can be started at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
