What Causes Intense Pain In The Legs?
I am having severe pain in both legs. The pain starts at the top of my leg in the back outside and travels down to my knees and sometimes beyond to mid calf. It is so severe I can barely walk. It goes away when I sit or lay down. This has been going on and getting progressively worse for approximately six to eight months.

Your symptoms seem to be related to myalgia which is an inflammation of the muscles in the legs. One of the common causes is the overuse of the muscles.
I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication to treat the pain such as Ibuprofen three times a day. I also suggest using ice compresses in the area of the pain.
