What Causes Intense Pain In The Waist Radiating To The Hip?

I have intense pain starts on left side of the top of my buttock and travels down the outside of my hip, hurts to walk, stand, nothing seems to help. If I am sitting for a long time and then get up to walk my lower back tailbone area hurts extremely bad.
