What Causes Intense Pain On Cuticle Of Right Big Toe While Having High BP?

I am a 36 year old male, 5 11 , 235lbs in relative good health, though I have medication controlled high blood pressure. I have begun having fiery shooting pain around the outside cuticle of my right big toe. The joint is not painful & there s no noticeable swelling, redness or heat. It almost feels like intense pain related to an ingrown toenail (only lots worse), though I had the nail bed killed off between 15 & 20 years ago after chronic ingrown nails. The pain usually doesn t last long & can be triggered by extending my foot fully or if it is stepped on/bagged on something. It seems to be increasing in frequency.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain may be related to abnormal nerve function-neuropathy.

This can cause the type of pain that you are describing.

There are different possible causes for neuropathy such as: (1) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(2)diabetes
(3)trauma
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)infection
(6)side effect of medication
(7)idiopathic- cause is not known

Since the pain is triggered by specific movements , it is more likely trauma related, meaning that a nerve supplying the area is compressed by a structure eg bone

Imaging of the foot, blood tests may be needed.

I hope this helps
