What Causes Inter Menstrual Bleeding?

I am a 47 year old woman and I this is the second month I have begin to bleed between my periods. The first time it occurred was when I wiped a few times light pink. Now I have noticed that it seems to alternate in color from pink to brown and dark pink and red. I don t know what to think. My tubes are tied and I do get fibroids. what may be the cause.
