What Causes Inter-menstrual Spotting?

Hi, in the month of August I got my menstrual on the 4th, then again on august 29th. That period lasted 5 days, into September 2. About a week later a lil blood spotting then nothing. At the end of September wen to the doctor for blood and urine pregnancy test, nothing.October 11, my period came and it lasted 8 days.Oct 29th period is here once again and that lasts with a combination of heavy bleeding, lite spotting, clots the size of a quarter. Before August my periods were pretty normal. Sometimes a lil spotting but on time like clock work.
