What Causes Intermittent Itching Sensation In Body?

I am itching all over and have been off and on for several weeks with no rash, haven t changed medicines, detergents, and etc. It is worse when I get hot, I am a 55 year old female. Doesn t stop in a another day or so I m going to the dr, it s driving me crazy!

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Itching all over the body without any rash is could be due to elevated bile salts in body.
There are number of skin conditions which are characterized by itching like eczema and dermatitis but both these entities are accompanied by rash.
Intense itching can occur due to elevated bile salts in body.
Bile salts are elevated in body due to their decreased excretion from body.
Certain drugs can impair the excretion of bile salts from body.
I suggest you to consult your physician for clinical assessment and relevant investigations.
Liver function tests, bile salts in urine and ultrasound abdomen are some of the investigations which should be carried out to find out the cause of excessive itching.
