What Causes Intermittent Left Sided Abdominal Pain?

I ve been having intermittent stabbing pain in my left abdominal area. It is very painful when pressed on. No fever, no nausea, but feel bloated. Pain came on suddenly 2 nights ago. Went to doctor yesterday and was told to eat liquid diet for few days and fill RX for flagyl & Bactrim if pain worsens. I ve had an attack of diviticulitis 6 years ago that was diagnosed with a cat scan. ( I was hospitalized for a week with an absess) Shouldn t my doctor have at least done bloodwork on me? Should I assume I have diviticulitis again and take the meds? Should I go back to the doctor?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, if this is the past history of diverticulitis then it need to be ruled out first and all investigation has to be done in this direction only, it might be intestinal pathology again, and it must not be neglected, till then pain can be managed with antispasmodic medicine, CT scan is most advisable, along with routine blood tests, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day
